How long do domestic cats live?
Well it all depends, but normally you can expect your desexed moggy to live to 14 to 16 years, with some cats living up to 20 years old. These are the exception, but desexing your cat will help extend your cats life.

What is the best cat breed for my flat?
Yes there are some cats need a lot of attention and some don’t. what I recommend is a Siamese cat they are very loyal to the person that they choose. If you are the only one in the apartment then you may have a great companion. those cats are very smart and loving.

You do have a problem. Your male cat has been the boss of his domain for a very long time and having a new-comer come into his home is confronting for him. However, if you slowly introduce the new dog into your cats home, you would will find that eventually your male cat will accept the new dog.
Keep them apart if you can and then a couple of times a day, both you and your partner go out into your backyard and have the 2 pets with you. You can pet your male cat and your partner pets and plays with his dog. If your male cat can see that having the dog around doesn’t cause him grief, he may let up with the fighting.
You have to help your cat understand that having the dog and your partner in the house need not be a bad thing. However this article may help you more: Introducing your new dog to your cat.

My cat is 12 years old how can i keep her cool when she pants in the hot weather?
Cats pant naturally when it’s hot to cool down. When it’s hot our cats will find a cool dark place themselves to sleep and keep cool, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about the panting. Sometimes just to keep my partner happy when one of my cats is looking a bit hot is to get a cool wet cloth and wipe their pads. Cats sweat through their feet pads and I have found my cats love it. Hope this helps.

Can you tell me the smallest domestic cat breed please. I have a huge moggie whom I love to pieces. I want to get him a companion cat but my place is too small for another huge one, so would like to go for something a lot smaller. Thanks
Before getting another cat please go to the Wiskas Select A Cat page. They have an interactive page were you can fill in the blanks and find the ideal cat for your situation. My preference would be a small domestic.

I have a problem, we have 2 female cats both de-sexed. One born 2005 the other born 2006.
Our 2005 cat is very quiet and timid and our 2006 cat is also quiet and I guess some what timid. Now our 2006 cat has started fighting with the older one, they have always had play fights but at 5am this morning he turned very nasty. Our younger cat actually full on attacked the older one and put punctures in her tail. We did not know this at the time we thought it was outside, but later in the morning I found a little trail of blood fixed up her tail.Sitting having a coffee thinking all was good (BIG mistake) the older one came out of my bedroom and as soon as the younger one saw her, she attacked again as a result the younger one in her travel cage. After a few hours she was let out and again all seemed good until she saw the older one and it was on for young and old AGAIN. I do not understand why this is happening as they have been together for well over 12mnths now. Any ideas??? We have a vet appointemnt in 1hr just to make sure nothing is wrong with the younger one. I cannot keep the younger one locked up in her cage but I cannot have her attacking the other one either. It’s just so sudden.Going to the vet is a great idea. Ask your vet what they think before going ahead and doing anything. One thing that I feel is important and that is to make sure that both cats have their nails clipped. Sharp nails can cause considerable damage.
How as fat as the fighting cats are concerned. it seems to me they are fighting over territory. The older cat has reached maturity and feels it must defend it’s territory and when the younger cat come near it, it will defend what it believes is hers. Apart from clipping the cats claws, the only advice I can give is to keep them separated for a while and make sure that both cats receive equal time with you.
Cats will fight for dominance and eventually they will work this out for themselves. However in the meantime I know it can be very distressing for you.
